I’ve tutored IB English for 8 years, mainly Language & Literature students who need sharper essay structure and cleaner analysis under time pressure. A lot of my work is on Paper 1 and the Individual Oral, because that’s where students often lose marks through vague points. I’m quite direct in lessons and I’ll usually stop an answer halfway through if I think it can be said better. That tends to help students move from a 4 or 5 to a solid 6.

I’ve been tutoring IB English online for the past 5 years and before that I worked in academic support with students who found literary analysis intimidating. In lessons we usually edit real paragraphs, test alternate readings and practise introductions that don’t waste half the essay saying nothing useful.

My background is in English literature and I’ve spent the last 10 years preparing IB students for coursework and final assessment. I’m used to working with strong students who want a 7 as well as those simply trying to get through HL without falling behind. I’m methodical and quite exacting about written expression, but lessons are friendly. I want students to leave with a clearer way of thinking, not just a memorised template.
